I thought yesterday was going to slip away without me getting a chance to make a sketch, but just before my son went to bed I managed to scribble a fast little one of him playing patience and listening to Harry Potter on his headphones.
I had to scrabble around a bit first to find a soft pencil, it’s been so long since I’ve drawn in graphite in earnest. I do think my practice at drawing in ink is paying off, as I managed only to use the eraser for a little tidying up, and although there are some issues with his anatomy, as a very quick ‘live’ sketch I’m encouraged. Maybe patience is being rewarded?
No doubt, I think this is great, and I agree that ink is a wonderful medium in that it teaches us how to be more precise with our marks. This looks terrific and I love his expression. Feels like a story there. π

Thank you very much Laura, I think we’re both enjoying what ink has to teach us! π

Lol of course you’re at a completely different level, but hopefully we’re all pushing forward! I’ve been amazed after all the other mediums I’ve tried (and loved) at how wonderful the graphite pencil really is. You’ve shown it here in this sketch!

You must be an early riser – what time is it where you are?!

It’s almost 6am and I’m normally not an early riser but we had a weekend blizzard and my husband just left for work at 530, so I want to make sure he gets there ok. May not go back to sleep at this rate lol.

I see – we’ve been hearing all about the tremendous snow, I hope your heating’s working well and you’re staying cosy. The photos of snow in Washington DC we’re seeing on the TV are quite spectacular.

I’m not far from there. Yes, heat is good and we’ve got a woodstove too but never lost power so it was all good. Took hours to dig out though! I hope it fades away while crossing the Atlantic and doesn’t affect you.

Thanks for the good wishes, glad you’re snug. We’re experiencing one of the warmest, wettest, windiest winters I can remember. It’s forecast to be 13C today, I’ve hung out the washing – that’s surely not right for January… it’s all gone a bit wrong!

No doubt. Mother Nature is confused, for sure, and so are we, it seems. π We were doing weenie roasts in December! It was insane. But fun lol.

Do you have hot dogs there? Frankfurters, maybe they’re called?

Yes, we do have them! π

Are they called hot dogs? Lol sorry for the third degree! π

We call them hot dogs if they’re in a bun. Otherwise, they’re known as hot dog sausages or frankfurters. I think they’re delicious but I don’t eat the ones we get here as I’m not sure quite what’s in them! π π

Lol I only eat organic ones but I hear ya!!

Thank you, Ann Christina. I think the arm’s a bit short, but never mind, he’ll grow! π

Thank you Sharon, I’m really happy you like it. It’s in my sketchbook, from which I never remove pages, so it would get kept either way! π

Awesome…so glad you made the time. This is a beautiful capture Rebecca! Definitely agree on ink…my pencil sketches are much more assured and I rarely erase now.
