Q: What’s yellow and sticky?

A: A stick!

Lichen twigs watercolour

I found these ash twigs in the garden, covered in bright lichen, and thought they would make an interesting watercolour sketch. I admit I didn’t take time to organise them into any composition – they are how they fell on the table when I brought them in. Although I don’t show the details on this little sketch, the shape of this lichen is rather like tiny petals spreading out from a centre. It certainly seems to flourish where we live.

It made a nice change to be able to use a rather vivid yellow and some patches of orange alongside the more traditional twiggy colours.
